The challenge

Digital tickets are easy to screenshot, duplicate, and resell fraudulently, and once a ticket leaves the platform no one can prove who really owns it. Sellout wanted tickets that are provably unique and can move safely between fans, without asking anyone to learn anything new. The experience had to stay as simple as buying a ticket online today.

How we thought about it

The trick was to hide every hard part behind the familiar flow. We scoped Phase 1 around the two things fans actually feel: a ticket that is provably real, and a safe place to keep it. Everything underneath, issuing the unique pass, creating the account, moving ownership on a transfer, happens silently after a normal Stripe checkout.

Every sale issues a one-of-a-kind, tamper-proof ticket tied to the event and the buyer, so a pass can’t be forged or silently duplicated.

A secure account per fan

Each fan gets a secure account that holds the tickets they own, created automatically at checkout. No new app, no jargon.

Safe transfers

Fans can hand a ticket to a friend in-app. Ownership moves cleanly, the old pass is voided, and the history stays clear, which shuts down resale fraud.

Verifiable at the gate

Tickets validate instantly with the QR scanning venues already use, and every scan feeds a trustworthy, auditable record of who actually attended.

The result

All of it sits behind the ordinary buy-a-ticket experience, so fans never have to think about how it works.
