# Four hours to launch, and they handed us the keys

Virtua was up against technical complexity no one had scoped and a deadline that could not move. With four hours left in the sale, they handed us the keys, and the platform we had quietly rebuilt overnight shipped without a hitch.

## The problem

Virtua, a serious technology player, was selling virtual land, and the sale was in trouble. The complexity ran deeper than anyone had scoped, the deadline could not move, and the first attempt hit major problems that forced them to pause. This was do or die: the launch, and the funding riding on it, were both on the line, and the software they were using was not going to make it.

## How we approached it

We gave them the honest version: stop fighting the current setup and let us run the entire sale instead. Then we backed our own advice before they even answered. Not knowing yet whether they would say yes, we rebuilt the whole sale page and platform overnight, so that if they agreed, not a minute would be lost.

- **Reused ever since**: The engineering we built to pull it off became a reusable toolkit, the Anvil SDK, and later grew into our public API.

What started as an overnight rescue became a long partnership, and the engineering we built for it became the foundation of everything Anvil ships today.
